Ger
Coach
Ger is a coach at Bohemian Fitness who brings empathy, lived experience, and a strong belief in the power of community to everything she does.
She grew up in a very sporty family. Her father was one of the founders of Maynooth Athletics Club, and both of her parents were involved in setting up the first Dublin City Marathon. Sport was always part of her environment, but her own relationship with exercise took time to develop.
During adolescence, Ger struggled with her weight, which affected her confidence, social life, and overall health. By the age of 17, she was close to 16 stone. Determined to change direction, she joined her local soccer team and later the GAA team, training alongside the same group of girls who would become a major source of support.
The sense of camaraderie and belonging helped her build healthier habits and a more positive relationship with training. Over time, Ger completed multiple 10km races, a half marathon, and two mountain climbing challenges. Due to a weak Achilles and ankle, a full marathon is currently off the table, but still a future goal.
As gym based strength and conditioning became more popular, Ger shifted her focus toward building physical and mental strength. She has competed in the CrossFit Open and a range of gym competitions, which she continues to enjoy.
What drew Ger to Bohemian Fitness was the structure, coaching, and sense of overall wellbeing that comes from the programmed classes. Knowing she had a class booked removed mental barriers and allowed her to train consistently, feel supported, and move on with her day feeling accomplished.
Inspired by the coaching, community, and culture of the gym, Ger decided to pursue coaching herself. She completed her Gym Instruction and Personal Trainer qualifications and now uses her own experiences to support people who are starting their journey, just as she once did.
Coaching approach
Training should feel supportive, structured, and achievable. Ger believes that confidence grows when people feel coached, encouraged, and part of a community that celebrates effort as much as results.
